Pasta Fun

Hey !

If you read my last post I spoke about checking your local libraries for activities. Today we went to the Greenfiled Library Story Time and I just wanted to show you guys the kids area at this library! I know when you think of a library you might think of it as being  dirty, but this library is clean and child friendly. Here’s a video of a play area (just showing you how clean it is)

The other day my son was driving me crazy!!!! Everything was making him cry sooooo I threw some rice in a bin with plastic vegetables and animals and it seemed to calm him down and he was content. If you have older kids you can do this activity but have them practice writing their names or sight words in the rice with their finger.

I am very OCD about the house so as soon as he’s done I clean up or my anxiety can’t take it!

Yesterday I made dyed noodles for him to play in. I didn’t have spaghetti so I used a pack of ramen noodles and they worked just as well!
👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻
1. Boil noodles
2. Drain Noodles
3. Divide noodles into zip lock bags(if your planning on making more than one color)
4. Squirt 15 drops of your choice of food coloring color into each bag
5. Add 1 tablespoon of vinegar to each bag
6. Shake each bag until the noodles are completely covered  in dye
7.Lay out  noodles (I put mine in a tray)
8.Let dry for 24 hours
I did not have the prettiest of colors, but they turned out! Also remember that the color will be more dull when the dye dries.

He played in this and ended up throwing them on the floor and squishing the noodles in his hands.
His hands were not stained but I would recommend taking off white socks because he was stepping on noodles. The noodles did NOT stain my floor!

Here is a picture of the noodles before they Dried and a picture after

Both of these activities help children develop fine motor skills, color recognition, vocabulary skills , and get them used to new textures.

I would recommend this for ages 12month-5 Years . I would not do this if you’re fearful of them eating small pieces of noodles or rice
