Sensory Bags / Bottles๐Ÿ”ฎ

Supplies
-Random small objects(confetti, small decor, durable stickers, beads, plastic animals etc...)
-Hair Gel
-Durable Tape
-Baggies
-Water
-Oil
-Food Coloring

For the Bags I just used small objects, hair gel, ziplock bags , and tape.

1. Tape all 4 sides of the baggie (front and back)
2. Place the baggie inside another baggie
3.Squeeze gel into bag
4. Dump objects into bag
5. Tape all the sides again

There’s a lot of ways to do sensory bottles and some of them require more supplies than others

Tape Pull Fine Motor Activity

Hey!

This is super easy and kept my son busy !

All you need is masking tape and random objects ( I used magnets )

Tape the objects to the floor or a table and have your child try and pick the objects up. They will have to manipulate their fingers in new ways in order to get the objects away from the tape and off of the floor.

This activity helps fine motor skills and object recognition. My magnets were animals shapes . So you could say, “ Find the pig, ducks, etc.” For older children you could do this to practice letter/number recognition(if you have letter or number magnets).

Pasta Fun

Hey !

If you read my last post I spoke about checking your local libraries for activities. Today we went to the Greenfiled Library Story Time and I just wanted to show you guys the kids area at this library! I know when you think of a library you might think of it as being  dirty, but this library is clean and child friendly. Here’s a video of a play area (just showing you how clean it is)

The other day my son was driving me crazy!!!! Everything was making him cry sooooo I threw some rice in a bin with plastic vegetables and animals and it seemed to calm him down and he was content. If you have older kids you can do this activity but have them practice writing their names or sight words in the rice with their finger.

I am very OCD about the house so as soon as he’s done I clean up or my anxiety can’t take it!

Yesterday I made dyed noodles for him to play in. I didn’t have spaghetti so I used a pack of ramen noodles and they worked just as well!
๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป
1. Boil noodles
2. Drain Noodles
3. Divide noodles into zip lock bags(if your planning on making more than one color)
4. Squirt 15 drops of your choice of food coloring color into each bag
5. Add 1 tablespoon of vinegar to each bag
6. Shake each bag until the noodles are completely covered  in dye
7.Lay out  noodles (I put mine in a tray)
8.Let dry for 24 hours
I did not have the prettiest of colors, but they turned out! Also remember that the color will be more dull when the dye dries.

He played in this and ended up throwing them on the floor and squishing the noodles in his hands.
His hands were not stained but I would recommend taking off white socks because he was stepping on noodles. The noodles did NOT stain my floor!

Here is a picture of the noodles before they Dried and a picture after

Both of these activities help children develop fine motor skills, color recognition, vocabulary skills , and get them used to new textures.

I would recommend this for ages 12month-5 Years . I would not do this if you’re fearful of them eating small pieces of noodles or rice

Indoor activites

Hello All

I wanted to share some places to go in the winter !

I also would like to remind you to check your local  libraries because a majority of them have programs different days of the week that offer things to do for free !

My son and I actually did Lap Sit Story Time at the Greenfield Library and it’s free!
I have also noticed that the Fishers Library has a playroom that is open to the public when they aren’t using it for other activities.

I have not tried this out yet ,but Conner Prairie also has an area for toddlers-preschoolers annnnddd it’s inside!

We have tried Urban Chalkboard multiple times and love the Babies Music Class (this is not free)

Here a link below with some other ideas!

Sincerely

Hot Mess Mom (that drinks a little ๐Ÿท)

Jello Search and Find

Hello!

Sooooooo....... this can be done from ages 6months to 360 months.

When I first did this , my son was 6 months old.

What I did : made two boxes of jello(follow instructions on box) . Put the jello into a pan or bowl big enough for their hands to dig through...When jello was still in liquid form , I put “bulky” toys into the jello(mostly teethers).. I put jello into the refrigerator until it was “jello form” .... done !

With older children , you can put a variety of smaller objects into the jello and make this activity into a search and find. Draw on a piece of paper pictures of what is hidden in the jello and have them find the hidden objects . You could add child friendly tweezers , if they want to use tweezers to pick up the items .

This activity promotes—— fine motor skills , problem solving skills , getting used to new textures, and if you’re doing this with older children ... it encourages them to follow directions.

*** If you don’t want your child to put jello into their mouth, than don’t do this. When my son did this, only small amounts ended up in his mouth and he was fine, if your child has not yet ate baby food I would not recommend doing this ****
